Sustainability Action Plan

The University of Utah continues to advance environmental, economical, and social progress for healthy and safe communities. In 2016, the Sustainability Office organized several groups from across campus to collaborate on updating the University’s plan for reaching carbon neutrality goal by 2050, fostering stewardship, and creating opportunities for prosperity.

Sustainability Action Planing

History

In 2007, the University signed the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment with the goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. To accomplish the neutrality goal, the U created the 2010 Climate Action Plan. However, the 2010 plan needs updating to include intermediate targets, better metrics, aspects of: social justice, food systems, investment practices, and wellness. Additionally, the new plan will also recognize the accomplishments already achieved since 2010.

Plan of Action for 2016 -2017

The Sustainability Office will be working with the entire campus community to draft a new Sustainability Action Plan. The office has formed committees of faculty, staff, and students to work on the chapters listed below; those committees will work on a staggered schedule throughout the year. If you would like to join a committee, please contact Myron Willson.
