Celebrate efforts to achieve a cleaner environment by participating in the University of Utah’s Earth Week activities. Hosted by the Sustainability Office, ASUU, and the Environmental & Sustainability Studies Sustainability Leadership CommitteeU of U Tree Campus USA, and Urban Ecology and Sustainability Scholars.

Monday, April 10
  • Campus Tree Tour  | 2-3:30 p.m. Presidents Circle
    Learn more about the trees at the University of Utah—part of the State of Utah Arboretum—on a tour led by campus arborist Suzie Middleton.
Tuesday, April 11
  • PARKing Day  |  11a.m.-5 p.m. Marriott Library parking lot
    Urban Ecology student group SCAPE will show us what a couple of parking spaces can do for pedestrians by orienting these auto spaces back toward the pedestrian.

  • Documentary screening  |  6-8 p.m. Union Theater
    Watch “How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change” by award-winning documentary filmmaker Josh Fox. Fox investigates the threat of climate change, traveling to 12 countries on six continents. Funded by a grant from the Sustainable Campus Initiative Fund.
Wednesday, April 12
  • Earth Fest: Party on the Plaza  |  10 a.m.-2p.m. Marriott Library Plaza
    Join on- and off-campus groups whose missions focus on the three pillars of sustainability: environment, social, and economic equity. Don’t miss Lock it Or Lose It, where the U of U Police give out free U-bolt locks for registering your bike!
  • Place as Passion panel  |  2-3 p.m. Sill Center
    Attend a panel discussion that explores the new and innovative discipline of Urban Ecology as both a design concept and a new paradigm.
Thursday, April 13
  • Social Soup  | 12:30-2 p.m. Gould Auditorium in the Marriott Library
    Social Soup is a semesterly reflection on social, economic, and environmental issues surrounding food. Join us for a panel discussion about local food issues and how to get involved through internships and volunteer opportunities. Panelists include Chris Natalie (NEW ROOTS), Ashley Patterson (WASATCH COMMUNITY GARDENS), Shawn Peterson (GREEN URBAN LUNCHBOX), and the Spice Kitchen. With support of the Marriott Library. Free soup provided by University of Utah Dining Services
Friday, April 14
  • Hoop-La: Hoop House Inauguration & Last-Frost Kick Off  |  11 a.m.-2 p.m. Pioneer Garden
    Eat, garden, and be merry. Celebrate the beginning of spring growing season while inaugurating our beautiful new hoop house. Prepare beds, turn compost, and transplant summer crops in the Edible Campus Gardens. Free lunch for volunteers at 1 p.m. by El Sillero. The Pioneer Garden is located south of the James Talmage Building (map).
